In the late 1800s, Italian missionaries built Catholic churches in the remote mountains between Taungoo and Loikow. The missionaries were chased out after the military coup in 1962. But their churches still stand, and their congregations believe.

We stayed in these churches while motorcycling our way across eastern Burma in search of music. At night, children from local villages, boarding at the church school, sang their prayers with haunting fervor. Here's a track from Yado.
